It is our go-to lens for new progressive wearers, from non-adapt progressive wearers to even happily adjusted progressive lens wearers.
Recently, I had a patient that was previously a non-adapt to progressive lenses. He came in with several pairs of glasses that had failed him in the past, that he had shoved into a drawer. The patient had decided to go with three separate pairs of glasses because it was the only way for him to get the clearest vision for his profession. That is, until he came into our office. He sat down with our doctor, who wrote him a new prescription for glasses. When he came to me, he sat down and immediately told me that he hated progressive lenses and that he could never get used to them; they made him feel nauseous every time he put them on. He also said that he hated how much he had to move his head around while wearing his previous progressive lenses. He also did not enjoy having to keep track of three separate pairs of glasses all day. I asked the patient what he did for a living and what some of his hobbies were. He explained that he was a nurse who worked the night shift, was also continuing his education online, and in his spare time, loved to go bike riding! I asked the patient if he would be willing to give the progressive lenses another try. I explained to the patient that, to his benefit, the technology for lenses was always changing and evolving. The patient said that he trusted my judgment, but that if he did not like the lenses, he would be returning them. I told the patient that I would recommend the Unity® Via Elite progressive lenses because they are one of the best progressives for people who have a hard time adjusting to progressive lenses. I explained it was one of the smoothest visual progressions offered in a progressive lens. And, that it had a larger reading area and wider fields of vision, which, in turn, has helped several patients previously unable to wear progressive lenses achieve sharper, more comfortable vision. I also recommended a pair of the Unity 5ft Office Pro lenses with the blue light anti-reflective coating, explaining that it might help reduce visual strain and fatigue caused by extended computer work. The patient agreed and purchased the lenses that I suggested. He was extremely surprised that both pairs of glasses arrived in such a short amount of time. When the patient came in to have the glasses dispensed, he put on the pair of Unity Via Elite lenses first. His eyes grew wide and he exclaimed "Oh my word, this is absolutely amazing! I can see everything and all I have to do is move my eyes, no more straining my neck to try and read the labels on medication bottles or holding up my glasses and moving them around to find the sweet spot to see my computer." Next was the pair of Unity 5ft Office Pro lenses. The patient was so excited about the visual quality of the lenses and agreed that they were going to be amazing for all the long hours of computer work. He also informed us that he would be our patient for life, because he’d never had such amazing visual quality out of any pair he had purchased previously. The patient then told us he wanted to make an appointment for his daughter, who had been complaining of headaches while in school. When that patient’s daughter came in for her appointment, his wife told us that her husband could not stop talking about his glasses to everyone. Once his daughter was finished with her appointment, the doctor brought out the prescription for glasses for the daughter. The doctor explained to the mother that she would recommend the Unity Relieve lenses for her daughter. The doctor then described how the lens would have vision for far distance in the top, but that it would have a slight boost in the bottom. Making the adjustment from looking up-close to then looking far away is easier on the eyes, causing less visual strain and discomfort. I then added that the Unity Relieve lenses can come with the TechShield® Blue Anti-Reflective Coating that helps block out the blue light emitted from digital devices. The patients agreed to go with the lens options suggested to them by myself and the doctor. The patients explained that, due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, they may be subjected to increased online schooling. When the mother and daughter came in to pick up her glasses, the mother thanked us over and over again for our patience and attentiveness to detail while helping her husband and daughter. She also informed us that she was going to tell all her friends and family about us and about our amazing products! The Unity lens far outshines any other progressive lens type on the market in my opinion. It will always be my go-to lens for my patients because of its clarity and adaptability, combined with a precise, personalized fit with fewer non-adapts and less redos, making it a clear choice for any progressive wearer.
